Metalman Team Successfully Rebuilds Clark Omega Dedicated Container Handler
Mon Jul 14 2014
After buying a fire damaged Omega, a 6 month rebuild, and help from Clark Equipment the team at Metalman have successfully resurrected this Omega. The rebuild included completely replacing the interior of the cockpit, all glass and cab fittings, and a complete strip down and repaint. All valves, hoses, and key electrical systems were also replaced under the watchful eye of Clark Equipment.
This behemoth of a machine was reduced to a 70 tonne blackened wreck following an engine bay fire at it’s previous site. It is suspect that a cracked fuel injection head allowed diesel to leak into the engine bay. The resulting fire melted the starter motor, destroyed all the electrical wiring, seals, hydraulic hoses and obliterated the cockpit.
The Omega is once again capable of stacking 40 foot containers 4 high. Much to the delight of the Yard Manager, this has freed up a lot of space in the busy Takanini yard. It has a 32 tonne lifting capacity and a boom height of 17.6 metres. It also comes equipped with a very large fire extinguisher, just in case!
